On October 15, 2026, a devastating school shooting occurred at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, leaving three children and a 25-year-old teacher dead, while two others were critically injured. The 16-year-old suspect, identified by police as Griffin J. John II, was a former special education student at the school. This heartbreaking tragedy has left families and an entire community grieving the innocent lives lost and the children and educators whose lives have been forever changed. 🔹 The Attack At approximately 12:58 p.m., John allegedly threw a weapon over a perimeter fence, climbed onto the school property, and fired through the glass panes of locked exterior doors to gain entry. He then reportedly walked directly into a special education classroom and fired as many as 15 rounds. 🔹 The Weapon According to law enforcement sources, the firearm used was a Maverick 88 12-gauge pump-action shotgun loaded with multiple types of ammunition, including birdshot, buckshot, and slugs. The firearm had reportedly been purchased by his mother in August, around his 16th birthday. When the attack was stopped, John reportedly still had 44 rounds of ammunition on his person. 🔹 How the Attack Ended Amid the chaos, a female teacher inside the classroom reportedly threw her cellphone at John before tackling him to the ground in an attempt to wrestle the shotgun away from him. During the struggle, a 36-year-old father of two students, identified as Kaylub Giamanco, followed the gunman into the school. Giamanco reportedly used a legally secured handgun to shoot John multiple times, killing him at the scene. The teacher's actions and Giamanco's intervention took place during a terrifying moment in which children and school staff were in immediate danger. REMEMBERING THE VICTIMS The victims who lost their lives have been identified as: 🕊️ Megan Lambert, 25 — a teacher who was killed in the shooting. 🕊️ Rhoam Summer, 5 — a young student whose life was tragically cut short. 🕊️ Two additional children, ages 8 and 11 — whose lives were also taken in this senseless tragedy. Two other victims were reported to remain hospitalized in critical condition: a 7-year-old student and a 54-year-old teacher. Behind every name is a family, a circle of loved ones, and a future that should have held so many more memories. The children should have been safe in their classroom, learning, growing, laughing, and enjoying their childhood. Their families should never have to experience the unimaginable pain of losing a child in this way. The teacher who lost her life was also someone's loved one, and her family and friends are now left with a loss that words cannot fully describe. As the community mourns, our thoughts are with the families of the children and teacher who were killed, those who remain hospitalized, the surviving students and staff, and everyone affected by this horrific act of violence. No family should ever have to receive the news that their child will not be coming home from school. No educator should have to face such danger while trying to protect their students. May the innocent lives lost never be forgotten. May their families find strength and comfort in the days ahead, and may those still fighting for their lives receive the care and support they need. Please keep these families, the injured victims, and the entire Bend community in your thoughts and prayers. #SilverRailElementary #BendOregon #OregonSchoolShooting #SchoolShooting #RememberTheVictims
