It all begins with the flight offshore. Look at this view! Nothing but blue ocean in every direction, and somewhere out there is the platform where I’ll be spending the next two weeks. After landing, I check in, collect my gear, and head to my accommodation. And look at this room! This is home for the next 14 days. Depending on the facility and contract, workers may have accommodation, meals, a gym, and recreation areas available onboard. Now, let’s talk about the money! I’m working 12-hour shifts, and your actual pay depends on your job title, employer, experience, and contract. Some offshore positions pay very well, but don’t assume every entry-level job comes with a massive salary. Always check your rate and overtime arrangements before accepting an offer. One advantage is that meals and accommodation are often provided while you’re offshore. Flights or other transport may also be covered, depending on your contract. During my shift, the work can involve helping the crew handle equipment, move supplies, and keep operations running safely. It’s demanding, but every day is an opportunity to learn. Once the shift ends, I can grab a meal, hit the gym, relax in the recreation room, or head back to my cabin. And after 14 days of work, a two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off roster means I can head home for the next two weeks before returning.
