@real.news.real.people: A 5-year-old, an 8-year-old, and an 11-year-old were all killed today in an elementary school shooting. So was a teacher. It happened in Bend, Oregon and two other victims, a 7-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher, were critically injured and rushed to a hospital, Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said. The suspected shooter, a 16-year-old boy, was found dead inside the school just minutes after the first reports of gunfire. Authorities say a bystander pursued the attacker into the building and shot him, stopping the violence. The shooting began shortly before 1 p.m., when someone outside Silver Rail Elementary called 911 to report being shot at by a person carrying a long gun, Krantz said. Police said the shooter, who lived in Bend, forced his way into the school by shooting at locked doors. Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek expressed heartbreak over the killings during a news conference tonight and thanked the community member who intervened. “To the community member who heroically intervened to stop further loss of life: Your actions carry a heavy emotional burden, and I just want you to know that my thoughts are with you as well,” she said.
