@mosheh: Tesla’s long-awaited new Roadster made a flying debut Thursday, launching off a ramp, flipping in midair and landing safely during a dramatic unveiling at SpaceX’s test site in McGregor, Texas. The electric sports car used a fan-powered suction system to drive up a curved ramp until it was upside down, then deployed compressed-air thrusters developed with SpaceX to take flight. In another demonstration, it jumped over a lineup of vehicles, including a semi-truck. “Turns out the future does have flying cars,” Elon Musk said on stage. Tesla also demonstrated acceleration from zero to 60 mph in under a second. Musk said certain versions can reach speeds above 230 mph. But buyers will have to wait. Nearly nine years after Tesla first showed its next-generation Roadster concept in 2017, executives now say production will begin in 2028. Tesla did not announce a new price Thursday. Its original advertised starting price was $200,000, before years of delays pushed the project back. Tesla's reservation page for the Roadster after Thursday's event listed a $50,000 reservation payment for the "Performance" version and a $250,000 reservation payment for the "Thrust" version, which features "acceleration thrusters." An invite-only "Rocket" variant is a single-seat model with a "full flight system."
