from a nurse who works transport and often visits different care facilities, stay away from Aventarra, Ignite, Warren Barr, anything with “The Grove” in the name. Other people have said Shirley Ryan and that’s the best for sure but I’m sure it’s very expensive. If you can get to an LTAC rather than a regular SNF that would be good. RML, Holy Family, certain Kindred hospitals, Marianjoy are all pretty decent!

Check out nursing home compare.com. You can see star ratings, survey results, staffing levels ect. See if someone from the facility came come visit you so you can ask questions before you make a decision. Ask about food, activities (I realize you may not want to go play bingo, but some do outings for example sporting events). Many have fb pages you can check out also.

Yeah absolutely ask for a referral to an acute rehab facility like Shirley Ryan, Schwab rehab hospital etc. legally they have to place any referrals you ask for. Also I would go on your insurance website and you can look up your own in network providers. Sometimes the social workers only put out a certain radius to search for facilities. I know because I am a social worker discharge planner.

Please, stay FAR away from The Pearl facilities. ALL OF THEM. If a facility is owned by or associated with ManorCare, I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. I highly recommend looking into Plymouth Place or Chateau instead. I completely understand what you’re saying about not trusting people in the medical field. However, as someone who has worked in both a rehabilitation facility and now a hospital, I’ve seen firsthand how much the quality of care can impact someone’s recovery. I’ve heard and seen great things about Plymouth Place and Chateau. Unfortunately, based on my personal experiences, I cannot say the same about ManorCare, The Pearl, or facilities associated with them. I’ve personally witnessed situations where the care provided negatively impacted patients’ progress rather than helping them move forward. Rehabilitation should be about healing, rebuilding strength, and making progress—not putting someone in a position where they risk losing the progress they’ve already worked so hard to achieve. Please do your research and be extremely careful about where you choose to go.

Elmhurst is close to highway. The city maybe SUS. ie Lincoln park. The only close I heard are Elmhurst, Skokie and the city locations but idk. So hard. Elmhurst is a nicer area. Skokie also. Idk if that matters

Stay away from ignite, the pearl.The grove of skokie, my aunt is there..so far its been a month and its going good.Please tell us where you are so we can send you things.

You can check for a list of violations, complaints,and health inspection against a medical facility via the Illinois Department of Public Health facility look up portal.

The only grove I know is in Lagrange and it’s was effen terrible! They had 3 patients to one room! They were understaffed and I literally would do everything for my mom when I was there otherwise it wouldn’t get done! Stay away from

I haven’t toured any of those. They will transport you. Let me do some research. The grove was not very clean but nice. We only toured one tho I was like NOPE.

We had good experiences with Thrive, not sure if they’re in network. They have a location in Aurora called Thrive of Fox Valley. My husband was there for a few months for long term medical rehab and care.
