For private schools the top students do IB, which is actually harder than HSC but if u do well then it gives better score when it translates to HSC atar. HSC is dominated by selective schools

Jess :
People who bring up selective schools should go on MySchools for some of the top selective schools and look up the SES demographics of the schools. It’ll be mostly the top and second quarters. Students from privileged backgrounds perform better in the HSC.

Public schools in Australia also adhere to zoning rules. Therefore, someone from low socioeconomic status can’t attend a public school other than shi one in their own area.

The conversation should be selective vs non-selective bc that’s what separates the top from the bottom in the HSC.

It’s the rich and influential contacts in the rich private schools that get you the leg up. There are way too many dumbarses in high positions because mummy and daddy bought their way up the ladder.

Public schools are so much better, I went to nine schools of my five best teachers one was from a private school. Public schools foster diversity and real world skills and that is more important

oh my god it genuinely doesn’t matter. you do not buy your atar. you get the atar through the effort you put in. if you are lazy with no work ethic, you will get a shit atar. happens at priv schools all the time
