@thevaultpodcast: Your partner has £20k for your house deposit and you have nothing 🏡 This time it’s the dilemma from the other side. How would you handle it? 👇 #financielle #firsttimebuyer #buyingahousetogether #couplesandmoney #housedeposit
All you need is a legal document stating she contributed 20k to the deposit, an she will get that ontop of half of the house if you ever break up and sell the house.

go tenants in common and get it in writing that the first £20k is hers and the rest is to be split if a break up was to happen. This is if you are going 50/50 on mortgage payments and bills

Buy the house in her name and split the bills, easy. when you get married it all becomes one anyways

Get a 20k loan and pay that off as quickly as possible.

Why not just give him abit of time to save up won’t take long, they haven’t been together long, depending on their ages of course

Perhaps they should both wait and save a little longer and do it as a married couple further down the road

You just write into the contract that on sale of the house, she gets the deposit back and then the remaining value is split. It’s a common thing when one party contributes significantly more and not a huge sticking point 🤷♀️

I don’t understand some of the comments here. He understands and agrees that they need to discuss it properly and protect her deposit in comparison to his lack of one. What is the issue? I bought the house for my then-fiancé and I. He had no deposit and is not on the mortgage so he signed away financial interest in the property. Worked for us, and he seems to understand the issues.

We're in the midst of buying our first house as a married couple and can only do so because of my husband's inheritance. In my mind, if we broke up then that money is his and we split the rest equally

they have massive relationship issues coming if they think about having it in her name and him as a tenant. just have a security listen against the house for the value of her deposit so that is secure in case of separation but it can't be seen as her house if they are buying together. big red flags with bells and whistles.🫣

Idk how I feel about this to me it’s all about your situation me and my boyfriend know his share of our deposit is much larger as his income is double mine and he has inheritance and I don’t. My parents are the exact same my dad had 90% of their deposit saved and paid all the mortgage payments yet he’d never say the house is 99% his as my mum only paid for 10% of the deposit 🤷🏼♀️
