You know what absolutely disgusts me about myself? I wear clothing that says
You know what absolutely disgusts me about myself? I wear clothing that says "JESUS SAVES" and "CHRIST IS KING." I publicly proclaim that I'm falling in love with Jesus. I share Scripture, speak about His goodness, and encourage people to surrender their lives to Him. But here's the part that makes me angry. Sometimes, all it takes is somebody disrespecting me, attacking me, questioning me, or pushing the right button, and suddenly the very Jesus I proclaim gets pushed aside while my flesh takes center stage. And what comes pouring out of me? Not patience. Not humility. Not gentleness. Not the love of Christ. Anger. Pride. Ego. The desperate need to defend myself, retaliate, or have the last word. And I absolutely HATE that. Not because I expect perfection, but because I'm tired of allowing the world to get a louder response out of me than the Savior I claim has transformed my life. And please, don't rush to tell me to give myself grace or remind me that transformation takes time. I understand that. But I refuse to use the language of progress to become comfortable with behavior that contradicts the very Christ I'm trying to follow. Here's something that should challenge every single one of us: People don't put what's inside of us. Sometimes they simply apply enough pressure to reveal what we've refused to surrender. It's easy to wear the shirt. It's easy to post the verse. It's easy to proclaim Jesus when everybody agrees with us and life is going our way. But what happens when somebody insults you? Betrays you? Lies about you? Challenges your pride? Does Jesus come out? Or does the world? Galatians 5:24 says, "And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." Not decorated the flesh with Christian clothing. Not justified it with religious language. CRUCIFIED IT. I don't want Christianity to be something people recognize by what I'm wearing or what I post. I want them to recognize Jesus by how I respond when my flesh wants to do the exact opposite.
