In 2023, a 12-year-old named Zamier Davies was working hard in school and still couldn't crack the honor roll. Wail Alselwi, who runs Zack's Finest Deli & Grocery in Staten Island, told him: get your grades up, and there's something free in this store waiting for you. Zamier came back with an 88. Alselwi gave him an Oreo milkshake. Next report card: 89. He added an egg and cheese, some chips. By the end of the year, Zamier made the honor roll. Alselwi posted about it. The video did millions of views. Word got out, and kids started showing up with report cards in hand, some traveling from as far as Pennsylvania. He calls the program

The video did millions of views. Word got out, and kids started showing up with report cards in hand, some traveling from as far as Pennsylvania. He calls the program "Grades for Grabs" now. Kids scoring 80 to 90 get to pick anything in the store, free. A fourth grader named Maleek showed up with his whole family after driving in just to show off his grades. A girl named Madison walked in with a perfect 100 and got handed cash on the spot. His brother started a GoFundMe to keep the program running. Over 2,700 people have chipped in almost $130,000. Zamier's uncle put it plainly: the milkshakes were nice, but the real work was Zamier's. He made a bet with himself, and with Wally, and he won it. #HustlersNTheHood
