My father was a mechanic. He used to buy used engines, strip them down, replace all the seals, fit a new set of rings and gaskets, and rebuild them properly. He never had problems doing it that way, and he always told his customers that this is how it should be done properly. This guy just seems like he’s looking for ways to make more money from people. Look at the quality of the parts he uses on VW engines. My father would rather pay R40 more for a MANN OEM-quality part and know the job is done properly than cut corners to save a few rand.

People should buy new cars, the cheaper new cars, including the Haval. The money spent fixing old german cars is not worth it,either you buy cheaper new car if affordability is the issue. I used to change parts every 2 weeks on 6 year old E90 back in 2014 until I decided enough was enough

Understandable. Fitting used engines is a 50/50 thing. That's why manufacturer's put a 150k price tag to simply fit a brand new engine to scare you away and avoid stuff like this

Even new engines bro only offer you 6 months warranty from the supplier, after that you are on your own.

Thats why I rebuild every engine. Even replacement engines get new gaskets and seals. Check bearing knock, clearances. New or used i strip. I’d rather be sure from the workshop manual and me having seen every part. Sorry mumbo, got burned this year too. So I take more time but rebuild everything.
