🔥 Returning Despite the Danger – St Isaac Jogues – October 19th St Isaac Jogues was a French Jesuit missionary who survived captivity and torture, yet returned to North America to continue his work. He is honoured among the eight North American Martyrs. ——— More about St Isaac Jogues: Born in Orléans in 1607, Isaac travelled to New France in 1636. He worked among the Wendat, also known as the Huron, learning their language and sharing their daily hardships. In 1642, Mohawk warriors captured him during a period of conflict involving Indigenous nations and European powers. He endured prolonged captivity and torture that permanently damaged his hands. After escaping with Dutch assistance, he reached France in 1643. Because his injuries prevented him from meeting the usual requirements for celebrating Mass, Pope Urban VIII granted him special permission to continue. Isaac returned to North America in 1644. His later journeys into Mohawk territory included efforts to support peace, but renewed hostility placed him in danger. He was killed at Ossernenon, in present-day New York State, on October 18th, 1646. Canonized in 1930, he is commemorated with his fellow martyrs on October 19th. ——— 🙏 May St Isaac Jogues inspire us to meet suffering with love and persevere in serving others. Follow A Saint a Day and share his story. ——— Music: Music by Patrik Lenk Chant of the Mystics: Veni Sancte Spiritus - Come Holy Spirit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wToW9YjkZHs ——— #dailyinspiration #christianhistory #UnshakenHope #FaithInAction 🎨 This channel features original human writing, research, and design, utilizing AI and Photoshop to assist our real human graphics and visual effects artists.
