Olaoye Opeyemi :
Toluwanisings died as a result of Nigeria’s poor health sector
When I was saying last year, when I lost my elder brother, about how poor Nigeria health sector was, people were thinking I didn't know what I was saying. Toluwani Singh's case is just synonymous to my elder brother's case. A situation where someone is needing an emergency medical attention and you wouldn't be able to find any good hospital to attend to that person. This is a very disheartening condition. You won't understand this thing until it happens to you.I know what I went through last year having to lose my only brother, now it is Toluwani Sings and the news was everywhere even when family and friends were still trying to resuscitate him because he is a celebrity.
The first hospital my elder brother was taken to told us he needed blood, which they began to give him,Only for the doctors at the second hospital to tell us he didn’t need blood following the report we collected from the first hospital, I was surprised because we didn’t suggest to the doctors to give him blood, they concluded he needed blood after conducting several tests on him. Then the second hospital decided to carry out their own tests and then confirmed that he didn’t need blood that it’s his oxygen level that was very low. Then we started pursuing oxygen again. Meanwhile, they started giving him oxygen right from the first hospital. We had to leave that first hospital because they didn't have enough oxygen to carry him until the next morning, So we had to rush him out because of unavailability of oxygen in that hospital.
UCH didn't even attend to us, they told us there was no bed. So it’s in a very serious condition we are living in this country, But you would not know until you find yourself in a kind of messy situation where you need emergency medical attention,Then you will know how bad our health sector is.
Surprisingly, Toluwanisings was also rushed to some of these same hospitals my brother was rushed to last year, yet there was no good result.
For Toluwani's case yesterday, there was no doctor available in UCH because the doctors were on strike. How long are we going to continue like this, losing our champions?
