I get people shouting at me in my shop telling me they can buy it cheaper on Amazon and Temu and that I'm ripping people off. Lots of people don't understand that we pay VAT, corporation tax, local tax (tates), NI employers tax contributions. Little shops need proper tax breaks, and the govt needs to go after the bigger businesses selling online from places like China

But remember who actually pays that VAT in the end, its the consumer. So in the end it makes little difference to the seller apart from making their items more expensive and thus losing them some sales. So although it is made out to be businesses avoiding tax, in reality its the end user that is saving on the tax.

This is the reason the high street is struggling, eventually the only shops that will be available in highstreets will be services that cannot be bought online. Unless they up the tax to balance or in my opinion tip the scales more favourable towards high streets. I think there is certainly a place for online shopping but it shouldn't be to replace the highstreet

Good at last they are realising that Chinese products which are the top sellers in nearly every category on Amazon aren’t subject to UK taxes and undercut uk retailers who pay all tax and duty and employ people. It needs to be stopped or there will be no Uk retailers left as they can’t compete and are copied by China. This affects uk high street and online businesses. Please don’t go after Uk sellers because it’s easy, go after the far east sellers.
