@mothershipsg: Speaking at a press conference on the haze situation on Oct. 16, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu said that around 10% of eligible Singaporeans have collected their masks. The minister also cautioned that Singaporeans should be prepared for the haze situation to persist for some time. "The situation is fluid. Depending on the weather, we can expect air quality to fluctuate, including the possibility of reaching hazardous level," she said. #mothershipnews
Ah, the classic government assurance: "There are plenty of masks in the warehouse... they just happen to have temporarily vanished from every shelf you look at!"
Let’s unpack this with a little guided curiosity, shall we?
1. If the government warehouses are full of masks, and the retail shelves are simultaneously empty, where does the mask go on its magical journey between the warehouse and the store? Is it taking a scenic route to avoid the haze?
2. When she says "sufficient stocks are available," does she mean available for the country in theory, or available for you when you're standing in front of an empty Guardian or Watsons shelf coughing?
3. If the shops are out of stock because of "increased demand," isn't that precisely when a mask shortage is a shortage? If you're dying of thirst, does it comfort you to know there's plenty of water... three towns over in a locked government depot?

We are too emphasize on AI but not looking into our little red dot environmental crisis. If Singapore can invest in innovative solutions to create rain over our country we no need the mask. Does our government pursue it? If yes , what they had invested? How about our Aircraft fire fight system? Did we explore? We had Heavy lifted helicopters, did we use them as resources? Many thoughts available. Had we explore them? We had high tech fire spots identification system with AI, do we used them and act promptly to prevent spot fire. We can use data of fire spots started and take full action against illegal land clearing. Did we use them? How much $ we had budgeted for haze prevention in Singapore for last 5 years. Can we know it?
