@fokumlah1: While we were busy celebrating Rwanda for securing a historic agreement to bring Formula 1 racing back to Africa, Cameroon was busy arresting its police officers and some civilians for allegedly stealing government fuel! Yes, you heard me correctly! They have reportedly been sent to Kondengui Prison. And we are not talking about a few litres of petrol disappearing from a police vehicle. We are talking about a scandal involving reported fuel transactions and financial discrepancies amounting to approximately 21 billion CFA francs, equivalent to about 36 million US dollars! Now, my question is, how did we even get to this point? Because government fuel does not just disappear into thin air. Who authorised the withdrawals? Who was responsible for monitoring the supplies? Who verified the records? And how long were these alleged irregularities going on before somebody raised the alarm? More importantly, are investigators looking only at those who physically handled the fuel, or are they also examining those responsible for authorising and supervising the process? Because accountability should not stop at the bottom of the chain. Cameroonians deserve to know what actually happened, how much public money was lost, if any, and who was responsible. Arresting suspects is one thing, but establishing the full truth and preventing it from happening again is another. And if Cameroon is serious about fighting corruption, investigations must follow the evidence, regardless of rank, influence or position.
