It's a gimmick. The thrust needed for lift means the the car weighs 1.5-2 tons. it will only ever "fly" for 1-2 seconds.

If people could just get past their blind hate, they would see what an amazing engineering feat this is. Who cares about the practicality of it? What I love about Elon is that he is a gateway to a realm that the rest of the planet thought was impossible. It doesn't matter if this thing ever makes it to production or actually hits the streets. The fact that it actually happened in real life is what's so incredible.

What if it evolves in to anti-rollover technology? Or is capable of lifting up in the air automatically when a little kid runs out in to the road between parked cars? The technology gets invented first. Then the applications for the technology get invented. This is innovation and it’s incredible.

I don’t get how people think these are flying cars. They get in the air for a few seconds. But Will never be road legal. It’s cool sure. But there is no real world application for this.
