yeah, I agree... it's not a deterrent, and it's a horrible act... it's lowering at their level, and thinking you have the right to end a life... and then to make it public? that's barbaric

I think what people don't get about the death penalty is what it opens up. I have said this countless times and it's made little difference, I understand I'm probably wasting my breath. Even if it changes one person's mind, it's worth it. When you give the government permission to kill, you are opening up suppression. You are opening people up to being framed and executed. The government will start looking for opportunities to kill political enemies under the guise that they committed a crime which was punishable by death. Another thing is the fact that crimes are very rarely proved 100% beyond a shadow of a doubt. I would prefer no one be jailed or imprisoned incorrectly, but I would much rather someone be imprisoned than killed if there is ANY chance that they can be proved innocent. No one who is innocent should ever die, and at the very least, we can do our best to make sure their blood isn't on our hands.

The state shouldn’t have the power to execute people, but if they insist on it then it should be as visceral as possible so that people can fully understand what an execution is

One of the many issues is that this cause is that it will make a recruitment terrorist organizations. Second issue is that we have to be VERY cautious of the precedent that public executions set. I do believe it is earned but it should not be public nor streamed in any way

you can literally watch prison documentaries where they talk to prisoners and they flat out say I don't know why I did what I did I wasn't thinking. that's because they were stuck in their feelings. they got angry their brain shut off and they reacted. so no amount of punishment is going to make people not do this anymore

until someone you loved is brutally r$%&d, murdered, sodomised, or tortured... my grandmother was brutally tortured and left to die on a farm attack in South Africa... she was 79 who treated her workers better than the government did... yet.... screw your views

For a lawyer, you’re not very intelligent and you very clearly show your bias. Iran executes people for stepping out of their religion. Iran executes people for being gay. Iran executes people for talking out against the government. Iran executes woman who don’t wear their headdress. Iran executes woman who defy their husbands but you want to try to make a comparison between that and U.S.? The U.S. executes criminals who faced a trial by jury, who were convicted by a jury of their piers and whose crimes were so heinous the death penalty was even an option. Then they sit on death row for what seems like an endless amount of years while they appeal the ruling. All at the tax payers expense. THAT is what you want to draw a comparison with when it comes to Iran and China’s executions? 🙄

It starts with one public execution of a terrorist and eventually becomes the government's way of spreading fear and control to the people it governs.
