I'm still shocked by how many parents pay for their children's entire wedding. Everyone I know had a small amount from the parents but mostly the couple pays.

Oh good if she’s not wanting to pay for anything that also means she gets no opinions on anything and now if won’t be tacky. I’d be like “ok that works” then leave her out of all discussions and tell her “Don’t worry about it”

It surprises me how much parents pay for their kids weddings. When my husband and I got married last year we paid for pretty well everything, including our honeymoon. My mom helped out by giving me $1200 towards my dress and my in-laws gave us $900 for our dj. Aside from that we covered everything else. I feel like if you’re ready to get married, you should be able to pay for it…. 😅

Sadly this was my in laws. Back when we got married it was pretty much accepted that the brides parents paid for everything. So after my hubby's sister got married first they paid for hers .. everything. Then he and I got married and they did not pay for anything. My parents had already paid for my elder sisters wedding and then here we go again, with mine. Double whammy. But I give my in laws credit for lending us their car and caravan for our honeymoon. We were 22 and 19 !! That was a whole lot of trust. They also bought us a bedroom suite which we still have 50+ years later. My parents gave us an acre of land. Times have changed but my hubby and I paid for elder daughters wedding. Then younger daughter paid for own. Then elder daughter paid for her second. Have to say though that I did not interfere in the arrangements for my kids weddings .. I learnt from my own experience with MIL

When our daughter got married we paid for it his mother was yelling about the guest list trying to invite more people my husband, the diplomat, told her sure this will be your portion for the extra people she threw a fit & said no the kids can open their wedding envelopes at the end and pay the difference, he told her no that wasn’t going to happen and it didn’t. We still refer to the rehearsal dinner as the rehearsal snack she had finger sandwiches, a tray of coy& pasta salad. There were only about 20 of us & that was their only expense everyone left after a half hour and went to a restaurant.
