@kodekloud: Base 64 Encoding Explained!🔓 Base64 is a binary-to-text encoding. It takes input in 24-bit blocks, splits each block into four 6-bit values, and maps each value (0 to 63) to a character in the standard table. Decoding runs the same table in reverse, so the original bytes come back exactly. SSH private keys are stored as Base64 text, but any encryption in them happened before Base64 touched the data. Input shorter than a full block gets zero bits added to complete the last group, and = marks each missing character. Which surprised you more, the zero padding or how easy decoding is? Caffeinated Code Dad :
It's obfuscation, not encryption.

The purpose of base64 is to convert binary data into ASCII.

you can make your own base… i use base36 and 62 and you can even scramble the tables for additional obfuscation.

I mean, technically speaking, base64 can be seen as a kind of encryption. The key is the encoding lookup table.

anyone thought base64 is encryption? It is just to convert binary to readable ASCII.

ROT13 is the only encryption anyone needs.

The last 2 bit padding, how to differentiate 2 real 0 vs padding 0?

I’d argue that it is encryption but it is horrible encryption. It requires the cypher key to reverse it. It does obscure plain text so not just anyone can read and use that data. The only issue is that key is well known and built into nearly every system automatically. It would be better than plain text but almost anyone can reverse it.

Base64 is arguably a form of classical encryption as it does fractionate. The only reason it’s not considered encryption is because everyone uses the same alphabet key. Change the alphabet. No one can decode. Use a sufficiently random alphabet, the search space is 64!

It's nice to look at and easy to process&reverse, hence why it's so popular.

Ain't gonna lie I failed badly at hexadecimals Probably the reason why I can't get such stuff but who has time to get that 2 is 001000 or j is 10010111 Ill never good at pointers 😢
