It does say hit and many scholars believe it means hit, a few don’t and have emerged in more recent years and as an Arabic speaker I don’t understand why God will want to be this confusing, that being said every religion including Christianity has some verses that would make people squirm a bit especially against women and I think we could just say yes it may say that but we don’t agree with it a lot of white Christian men hit and even do worse to their wives look at the state of the country. Some people turn criticism into Islamophobia which is not very Jesus like either.
