@et.locals: Born on November 2, 1916, Kebede Mikael was one of Ethiopia’s most prolific literary figures. He was a poet, playwright, novelist, historian, philosopher, journalist, and translator whose work helped shape modern Ethiopian literature. Throughout his life, he wrote extensively in Amharic and translated major literary works, including Shakespeare’s *Romeo and Juliet* and *Macbeth*. In 1964, he became the first recipient of the Haile Selassie I Prize for Amharic Literature. In recognition of his contributions, Addis Ababa University awarded him an honorary doctorate.
