@404.media: Consulting giant Accenture has told many employees that the company will now only spend $29 a month per person on Claude. Employees subject to the cap, some of whom had been spending as much as $1,000 monthly, are scrambling to find ways to make sure they can keep spending as much as they already are. The news is a snapshot of what continues to play out across all sorts of industries: companies have spent heavily on AI tools, and are now discovering that many users are burning or “chewing” through AI tokens at a rapid clip. In response, many companies have curbed their employees’ AI use. There is a special irony to Accenture doing much of the same, when it is a company that has encouraged its clients to invest heavily into AI. @Evy Kwong Link in bio to read more.
wasn’t it supposed be be cheaper than keeping more people?

100% Accenture is trying to push token costs to employees. The expectations to use AI combined with a $29 cap will push employees to just pay for a max subscription themselves.

The problem is we used to have teams of 10 they laid off 7 of them and now the 3 left are being told this is the limit and are still expected to deliver the output 10 ppl used to achieve

So layoff humans. Use ai in place of those humans. Ai costs more than the humans you lay off. Tell remaining humans to use ai less. So you paid more to put yourself in a worse place.

It's fun watching companies discovering that burning money is bad for their bottom line, and money & computers are no replacement for people who actually know how to operate the computers 😅😅😅

Yep, even my company started controlling how much we use per week, but still want the same amount of “productivity” we had when we used AI to do multiple tasks at once.

People on a daily basis have already lost the ability to research information on the internet without AI, the same will happen in companies too, I'm not sure what this means for the future but it's likely grim.

And their AI code is shit. I have the misfortune of having them as a supplier where I work and we’re having to system test the entire thing and it’s FULL of bugs.

for context $1,000 a month is actually quite low for someone who is doing a lot of development work.

The "force multiplier" is creating so much profits that its expensive usage needs to be capped? Sure. It certainly isn't a bubble propped up by the wealthy for their own gain.

I mean, this is a funny organizational policy failure. Literally just set up an organization account and set reasonable limits. What are they doing, reimbursing personal account usage?
