Ms. Gee :
I am a middle school teacher and we have yondr pouches. Honestly, the day to day improvements in our students have been HUGE!! And in an emergency, we need them listening to us or RUNNING. Not texting or getting distracted by texting. If need be, we can always cut them open to get kids to phones is god forbid the adult made the call that yes, kids need to be able to text their parents. I will say, we often have ambulances come to school for medical issues, and the way our building is shaped, almost half the classes in the building can see the ambulance. Since yondr, no longer do we have pictures of people being taken out of school in an ambulance, private medical information being shared, or phone calls to the school asking why there was an ambulance, or Facebook posts from panicked parents riling up the community saying that their kid texted them that there is a huge emergency at school (there wasn’t. Someone fainted). We can now make sure the community gets the information they need when they need it without causing alarm or violating privacy. And in a true emergency, we are trained (more than I’d like to be) and the kids are trained (also more than I’d like them to have to be), and our job is to keep them safe and get them out. Phones actually make that harder for us to do. I totally get the fear from parents, and this is also my inside perspective on the trade off. And again, if it really called for it, a pair of scissors would solve the problem really fast. If we’re locked in a classroom and I need kids communicating outside the room, we’re cutting that shit open so fast.
