I mean corsets were comfortable and supportive. Tight lacing was recognised at the time for being ridiculous and was only done by the same sort of people that today will wobble about in 6 inch heels. Most of the shaping required by fashionable clothes was done through a mixture of corsets and padding.

I know the jelly bras are good, but the actual stays and corsets from the 1800s were actually very comfortable and supportive.
