@news.hunter.fast: Olympic Sprinter Beth Dobbin, 32, Now Spends 22 Hours A Day In Bed After An ME Diagnosis Beth Dobbin represented Great Britain at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Now she is speaking about a chronic illness that has changed her life. The 32-year-old sprinter from Doncaster was diagnosed with myalgic encephalomyelitis, or ME. The Cleveland Clinic describes it as a chronic illness that causes extreme tiredness that does not improve with rest. She told BBC Sport she spends about 22 and a half hours a day in bed. She only gets up to eat or use the bathroom. She has left her house just five times in 2026 so far. “I’ve gone from training five hours a day to being bed bound 22 and a half hours a day,” she said. Dobbin says she had C*VID and glandular fever between 2021 and 2022. She found out through tests, because she did not realize she was unwell. Later, her neck and armpits became sore. As the season went on, she said, she would have “one bad race, one good race, one bad race.” Doctors ran tests, but nothing was picked up. Then came dizziness while running and a loss of feeling in her legs during a competition, which caused a false start. After seeing multiple specialists, she was diagnosed with ME. She described her future as “very bleak.” Her sister, Faye, says she is “so desperate” to help but cannot, because there is no cure for ME. Faye plans to run a marathon to raise money for ME Research U.K. Her mother, Jean, said, “She should be building her life, living her best life.” What do you think we can do to support people living with ME? #beth #ME #TeamGB #olympics #Tokyo
