@thesportsontap: Drew Brees played 20 seasons and never once asked another player for his jersey. Then he asked a rookie. It was for his son's birthday. Here is the whole thing. Christmas Day, Justin Jefferson's rookie year. The Superdome with nobody in it. Everybody on the field in masks. New Orleans won it 52 to 33. Afterward Brees found Jefferson and asked him for his jersey. First time he had ever done that. Then he explained why. "In fact, he told me if I score I had to do your dance." That is Brees talking about his own kid. The kid is a Jefferson fan. He had given his father a condition. Score, and you do the Griddy. Here is what makes it turn over. Justin Jefferson is from Louisiana. He went to LSU. He grew up watching Drew Brees in that building. And Drew Brees has a son who grew up watching Justin Jefferson. They were not allowed to trade jerseys that season. The league had shut all of it down. So Brees took his own jersey from that game, signed it, and sent it to Jefferson anyway. Here is what he wrote. "You are the next generation of great ones! Keep ballin'! More importantly, keep inspiring." Jefferson was 21 years old. A few months after that, Brees retired. So why are we hearing about this now. Brees told the story on Sunday. NFL Films went back and pulled the audio off the tape. Now the honest part. Nothing new happened here. This is a six year old moment, and what changed is that somebody found the tape. But look at what he was doing in that picture. He is 41. He has a Super Bowl ring and every passing record there was. He is four games from the end of his career and he does not know it yet. And he is standing in an empty building in a mask, asking a 21 year old for his shirt. Not for a trophy case. For a birthday. Justin Jefferson grew up watching Drew Brees. Drew Brees's son grew up watching Justin Jefferson. The dad in the middle is the one who had to go ask. #nfl #nflnews #nflfootball #saints #nolasaints
