I feel real sad for other Latinos who apparently grew up like this because I never hated being Latina. I specifically remember thinking as a kid I took more pride in my ethnicity than I did with being a girl lol

latina / latino come from latin origin so basically that means that they used to speak a different laugngauge but then like colonist made them change their language over time

They basically put Latina and Hispanic in the same bucket as non whites. She was an amazing actress and dancer. She deserved better

i always remember reading that eva longoria was of 80% european descent and 20% ethnic (i guess she did a dna test), it made me realise how much white spanish blood a lot of hispanics have, so i dont get the exclusion from other whites? (I mean racism is dumb anyway!)

It’s still the same today and definitely applies to corporate America, you’re either the exotic sexy lady or the cleaning maternal lady but never smart nor with hobbies.

i had a girl, friend of a friend, come up to me and try to guess my horoscope. She guessed every other one until she gave up, and asked me what mine was. I told her, I'm a Libra, and she didn't believe me because she said I was too spicy to be a Libra (whatever that means). and my friend next to me laughed and asked, are you saying that because she's latina? and the girl laughed and shouted, omg, that's exactly it! hahaha, you're soooo spicy, that makes sooooo much sense. wtf did she think this was necessary?

My mom never stopped mocking my husband for no apparent reason — until he cooked dinner for us, waited until after the meal, and said, "Either you tell your daughter what you’ve been hiding, or I will." "Do you ever wash a dish?" Mom asked Wade. He was standing at the sink. Washing dishes. "Mom, look at him!" "Only because I’m here. Men like him are always pretending." She had begged me not to marry Wade five years earlier. Since then, every visit had brought a new complaint. She ignored his early shifts, the lunches he packed, even the porch railing he had fixed at her house. I knew there were husbands who never lifted a finger around the house. But Wade wasn’t one of them. He was my rock, the person I could always count on. Still, Mom’s dislike of Wade always seemed strangely personal, though I could never understand why. One evening, Wade set down his coffee. "Invite your mother over for Sunday dinner." I stared at him. "You can barely stand each other." "I want to fix things. I’ll cook for her." On Sunday, the kitchen smelled of garlic and roasted chicken. He had even baked her favorite lemon pie. "You cooked all this?" Mom asked, poking a potato with her fork. "Every bit." "Well. Miracles happen. Not exactly delicious, though." Wade just sighed. Halfway through dinner, she leaned toward me. "Don’t get used to this, honey. Men put on a show when they want something." After dinner, I reached for the plates. "No, honey," Wade said. "Sit down. Before dessert, your mother has something to explain." Mom gave a sharp laugh. "What nonsense is this?" "Actually, this is why I invited you. I’ve waited five years for this chance. Your daughter deserves the truth." He walked into the kitchen and returned with an envelope. Mom’s fork clattered onto her plate. Her face turned scarlet. "Where did you get that?" she whispered. "Either you tell her what you’ve been hiding, or I will," Wade said. I looked back and forth between Wade and my mother, completely confused. "Hiding what?" I asked. See less
