@inthepresenceofsaints: Saint Gerard Majella: The Miracle Worker Who Became the Patron of Mothers Saint Gerard Majella was born at Muro in southern Italy in 1726, a poor tailor's son, small and sickly, with a heart that burned for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and for His Blessed Mother. Turned away for his frail health when he begged to join the Redemptorists, he followed them anyway, and Saint Alphonsus received him as a lay brother. As porter, sacristan, and tailor he served everyone — and heaven worked wonders through him: he read hearts, was seen in two places at once, restored a boy who had fallen from a cliff, and multiplied bread for the poor. Falsely accused of a shameful sin, he bore months of disgrace in silence rather than defend himself. The handkerchief he once left with a young girl — "Keep it; one day it will help you" — later saved her life in childbirth, and made him the beloved patron of mothers. He died at twenty-nine, in 1755. Saint Gerard Majella, pray for us! #Catholic #SaintGerardMajella #CatholicSaints
