@mosheh: Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins and Democratic challenger Troy Jackson sparred during a Thursday night debate when a protester interrupted them. “A.I. data centers are destroying our climate. They’re poisoning our water,” the protester yelled before being removed. “So this is obviously one of Troy’s supporters,” Collins said. “Oh, shut up,” Jackson shot back. “I don’t even know that kid.” “Oh, right,” Collins replied. Polls show Collins and Jackson neck-and-neck in a race that could determine control of the Senate. Collins is the only Republican senator up for reelection this year in a state that voted for Kamala Harris over Donald Trump in 2024. Jackson, a one-time logger and former Maine Senate president, became the Democratic nominee in July after Graham Platner dropped out following sexual-assault allegations from a former girlfriend, which Platner denied. Maine Democrats subsequently selected Jackson to replace him. Thursday’s debate was their fourth and final matchup before Election Day, and much of it centered on whether Collins is as independent from President Trump as she says.
