@thesportsontap: Bob Uecker spent 54 seasons in the Milwaukee Brewers radio booth. The most famous pennant call of his life was a fake one, in a movie. Last night his replacement used it for the real thing. Here is the whole thing. Jackson Chourio caught the last out and Jeff Levering said this on WTMJ. "The Brewers win the pennant! Oh my God, the Brewers win the pennant!" Here is why that line matters. Uecker played Harry Doyle in Major League, the announcer. He has a line in that movie when the team wins the pennant, and the line is oh my God. That movie was filmed in Milwaukee. So the most quoted pennant call Bob Uecker ever made was for a team he did not work for, in a city he was not in, for a championship that never happened. Now the man himself. Before the booth he was a catcher. 297 games, a .200 average, fourteen home runs. He won a ring in St. Louis as a backup, which means he has a World Series ring and almost no World Series. He built a second life out of being bad at baseball. Harry Doyle. Mr. Belvedere. And 54 seasons on the radio in Milwaukee. Here is the part that stops you. He was already the Brewers announcer the last time this team won one. That was 44 years ago, in his twelfth season. He did 42 more. He never got another. He kept working while he was sick. He was in the clubhouse for the clinch in his final September. He passed away about 21 months ago, at 90 years old. Levering, afterward. "It always goes to Bob. We felt him with us all night." The team's own post was six words. Dedicating this Pennant to Mr. Baseball. Now the honest part. He did get one. He was in that booth for the last pennant, so he did see it happen. But he spent 42 more seasons waiting on another, and the pennant call everybody can recite was something he made up in a movie. Last night a guy who grew up listening to him said it out loud, and meant it. #MLB #brewers #baseball #majorleaguebaseball #brewcrew

Imagine if it's the Guardians and the Brewers.
Both of Ueck's teams.
Each in their own way.

he skipped 82? I am confused. I saw him make an appearance on the network broadcast before the playoff games and world series games in 82 and he was calling brewers games in the 70s

And now, there is a chance that the team Uecker announced for could face the team Doyle announced for in the World Series. Uecker is all over this!

TBH, he had to go to heaven to get this done. Without him up there, we may have had another big disappointment.

Dodgers fan here. I like this. How can you not be romantic about baseball. Now listen to me, I’m going to root for the Brewers to win the World Series this year. So whoever the Brewers play, you guys need to whoop their asses!!! The team that beat the Dodgers needs to go all the way now.

Uecker DID call the 1982 ALCS, which the Brewers won. It’s interesting the current announcer paid homage to his call in “Major League” and not his real call in 1982
