Anaemia is often dismissed as “just being a bit low in iron.” But when it goes untreated for long enough, it slowly affects every system in your body. For months I experienced symptoms that didn’t make sense. Extreme exhaustion. Heart palpitations. Chest discomfort. Brain fog. Dizziness. Night sweats. Anxiety that felt completely out of control. My cognitive functioning changed. My nervous system felt constantly on edge. I felt like my body was slowly failing and no one could tell me why. What many people don’t realise is that when haemoglobin drops, your body literally has less oxygen circulating to your brain and organs. Your heart works harder. Your nervous system becomes dysregulated. Your brain struggles to function normally. You can spend months thinking something serious is wrong with you… when in reality your body is simply running on empty. And sometimes it only takes one additional event to push moderate anaemia into a severe crisis. That’s what happened to me. Now I’m recovering from dangerously low iron levels and a haemoglobin that dropped to a point where my body simply couldn’t cope anymore. Recovery isn’t instant. Even with treatment it can take weeks to months for the body to rebuild healthy blood again. I’m sharing this because so many people are living with symptoms they’re being told are “just stress” or “just anxiety”. Sometimes it’s your body asking for help. Anaemia is not just being tired. It can affect your heart, brain, mental health and your ability to function day to day. Listen to your body. And if something doesn’t feel right, push for answers. #A#AnaemiaAwarenessI#IronDeficiencyW#WomensHealthI#InvisibleIllnessListenToYourBody
