I didn’t understand why this woman was shouting and moving around frantically, continuously shouting, “Ina ooo, Maa Jẹwọ ooo!!” I quickly ran outside and called for help. Many of our neighbours came rushing into the compound asking, "What happened?!" Some people were already holding her to calm her down. One of them even shouted, "Water… Water..!" But when they poured water on her, she became even more distressed. "I need to talk to my son!" she kept saying in Yoruba I immediately placed a WhatsApp video call to my husband and pointed the camera directly at her. The moment she saw her son’s face on the screen, she broke down and started revealing the hidden story behind what had happened to her family years ago, why my husband was the only child who remained with her, and why she had become so determined to interfere with my pregnancy. She explained that she belonged to ‘Ẹyẹ Aye’ where members were given important positions for ten years. According to her, to remain in that position, they had to offer their direct offspring for power. That was how she had lost three of her children over the years. To avoid losing her last child, she had spared my husband and instead decided that my unborn baby would be used to replace my husband since they were of the same blood. She believed everything was going according to plan until I just changed all of a sudden and I stopped accepting anything from her. She shouted that I had rejected every item she brought and that the red wrapper I was tying made it worse. She kept talking. Everybody was just shouting “Ahhhhhhh” That was how she revealed everything in front of everybody I stood there frozen, holding my stomach and repeating, "Jesus... God o..." because I was completely speechless. After telling everyone what she knew, the woman suddenly ran out of the compound and disappeared. No one saw her again. It was one of our relatives that later sajd that they saw her on the street, she's not normal again. When my husband rushed back home, he was completely down. He held me tightly and I just kept patting him. “It is well…” I just kept telling him. I told him the full story about the old man under the bridge and the strange advice he had given me. A few days later, we went back to Oja Oba market to search for the old man and thank him, but all the people around the area insisted they had never seen or heard of anyone matching his description. It has been three years now. My husband and I are living peacefully, happy and healthy, alongside our beautiful daughter. Wherever and whoever that baba is, God will bless him.
