@blitzphd: It's surprising that a lack of dark matter can be evidence for dark matter, but here we are. Of course, it's not settled, and proponents of modified gravity always find a work-around! #physics #Astronomy #space #darkmatter #explained
Erm… that’s crazy!!! I wonder where it went!!! *burps and rubs suspiciously dark-matter shaped belly*

Don't all the other galaxies have super massive black holes? I know this falls under the modified gravity theory but couldn't it simply be a property they possess?

Can you make a video about modified gravity? Isnt gravity being universal not concretely proven? Isnt gravity and quantum physics kinda finicky?

The first dark matter correction was done by Michio Kaku by taking his bubble foam theory of quantum spacetime and applying it to galaxies. It created a model that was accurate enough to predict the age of the universe. In a sense, that is modified gravity, treating every galaxy like it is its own curved in universe. Then different galaxies could have different sized bubbles where “gravity” can be treated differently. Who is to say that they actually are not their own closed bubble universes? That is the correct modified gravity model. The model worked, and as far as I know it hasn’t been replaced to deal with calculations that involve the entire universe.

The theory of gravitation was proven incorrect, wasn’t it? (Not saying gravity isn’t real, it is, but that it’s predictions broke down in practice in trying to predict Mercury’s orbit.)

In the past galaxy formation theories didn’t require any amount of dark matter … I feel like as soon as something exciting is proposed is used as requirement for anything before is even proven

did they consider time? gravity affects it. Between galaxies - waay less gravity (not much mass)
In galaxies - quite some mass at the edge ... but ... huuge amounts of mass at the center. Maybe enough to "slow down" time? And we're looking at them through areas where time is different.

Then there's option 3, something imparted that additional spin to them. Such as impacting or passing near another galaxy?

Hey could you talk a bit about the relationship of mass and speed? Typically something doesn’t need mass to go fast, so is it that at the current speed they would break up without more mass holding them in? Or what? I missed something

Dark matter doesn’t exist, the current theory of gravity is good estimate for most of the solar system but beyond that it doesn’t help.

its kind of insane to assume gravity is perfectly linear of all distances... very few things are 100% linear over the full range. e.g. the "ideal gas law" is really only "ideal" over a fairly narrow range of temperature and pressure. "water is incompressible".... for low pressures, sure.... "electromagnetic interactions are linear"... for low E/B field strengths and large distances, sure....
