I tried on my door lock mechanism once and it works perfectly smooth. the problem comes after a short time as the liquid becomes gummy and jams the mechanisms inside.

I use WD-40 on locks by the advice of a locksmith for 30 years on locks and never had any problems. It keeps car lock from freezing.
