Thank you for this information. My brother quit his job and has been taking care of my mother who has dementia for 6 years, not knowing any of this. For the last two years they have been living with me and my family, but he his her primary care giver because she needs someone around 24/7 and both my husband and I work. Thank you for sharing!

These are all only good if your parent is on Medicaid. The threshold is ridiculously low.

Also the new Medicare program GUIDE. Also anyone with dementia can be placed on Palliative Care and paid by Medicare. Find a program that will provide bath aides for sure!!!

I can get paid by the state to care for my husband only if he also has medical assistance. But, I found out that when they die the state wants their money back. My parents are dead and I owe The Day over $9000 for medical assistance that they had that I had no idea about. So what good is it to have medical assistance to help with the burden of caring for someone if when they’re gone you still have to pay that money back that makes no sense to me.

I was denied three time for compensating caregiver for my disabled combat vet husband. Government deemed him 100% PTSD, unemployable and homebound…

Always check your insurance as well for over the counter benefits, this allows you to get vitamins, meal replacement drinks and incontinence pads. Also, ask your provider for a social worker referral, they are able to help you with community service benefits, food pantries, and long term care benefits.

Just remember when Medicaid is involved that if the person owns the home, Medicaid is gonna come back and retrieve all expenses that it has put out for that individual from the property sale
