Snelling pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant. The baby was found dead inside a plastic bag in a closet at an off-campus home in Lexington in August 2025. During an earlier court hearing, Snelling admitted that instead of helping her newborn, she had ended his life. The medical examiner determined the baby was born alive and died from asphyxia, though the exact means was undetermined. Snelling will become eligible for parole after serving 85% of her sentence, but she is not eligible for probation.
