Ulta is definitely not a fresh out of school place.

Don’t know why this POV was even needed! I’ve been getting my hair done since early 90s. Stylist have always charged wash and styled together, cut, color, extensions, even updos are added service🤷🏾♀️You never could go to a salon expecting all these services for one set price.

I think ulta , JCPenney is good because everybody don’t have $900 to spend for a hair due.

Why are we assuming they’re hiring fresh out of school stylist? They have master stylist there too killing it. Will presses, extensions, color …

Places like Ulta will up the price when they see it takes longer on natural hair just like the Dry Bar did. Time is money with corporations.

I don’t see why it’s a problem to pay one price for a wash, cut ,&style.Stylist today want to charge for EVERYTHING!! You don’t even want to do the bare minimum like shampooing. You want your clients to be shampooed & conditioned before coming to their appointment.

Former JCP stylist here. This is what I would say to the cos students after graduation, go work at a chain salon because you get the opportunity to develop your skills, find your niche, be mentored, build your confidence, build your clientele and learn of the business side. You will learn how to market and upsale. Its a commission base salon. JCP offers continue education courses on the services they offer it a great starting point. Its a great opportunity starting out and its a great opportunity for experienced stylists because not everyone wants to own or operate a business. There are great stylists there as well. But that commission though. Yeah Penney’s is getting their cut for sure.

Yes! I used to manage an Ulta salon. They are all about money lol. They only care about your service sales per hour. So therefor you have to upcharge. However, the clients think it’s cheaper but in actuality it’s about the same.

I agree! I started in salons similar to Ulta and JC Penney after I finished Cosmetology over 20 years ago! It teaches Time Management too.

That’s a fact. We were definitely taught to price à la carte, hence why I’ve always done it thr right way. I will not perform 40 tasks for the price of one. It doesn’t make cents

Yes, it can be a learning experience and for stylist to build there clientele. Then there are stylist that make 6 figures there. Especially the one at the ulta silverlake location.
