If my memory serves me correctly, Otiende Amollo told us that the family did not want politics during Baba’s commemoration. Yet what we witnessed was completely different. Was it truly a commemoration, or a platform for advancing a one-term political agenda?
What Winnie said was not political? What Ruth said was not political? Let us be honest with ourselves!
We, the Luo people, know what we want, and we do not need anyone, including Baba’s family, to dictate our political decisions. Our choices must be guided by our own convictions, interests, and democratic rights.
I sincerely thank our broad-based partners and leaders, led by Governor Gladys Wanga, for reading the situation and refusing to be drawn into what I believe was a calculated attempt to turn Baba’s commemoration into a political humiliation rather than a moment of honour and unity.
To the fence-sitters, the time has come to choose a side. You cannot remain neutral forever while others make critical political decisions. Let us meet at the ballot, where the people will have the final say. Our loyalty is to the people, and our political future will be decided by the people—not imposed on us.
