@jola.jovani: In my sessions I teach couples how to work through dismissiveness 🤍 sometimes it’s just about knowing the right things to say. Other times it’s about working through your own emotions
To me that’s not even dismissive. That’s just a disagreement over perspective. It’s not buying into a wrong take.

For some people that lack of curiosity can’t be even cordially faked. I walk away from such people.

my partner thinks I'm too curious and I asked too many questions and I should just let him do an act and behave how he wants to without trying to learn why or understand his point of view. he thinks me trying to understand his point of view is me degrading him and or me thinking he's a failure or useless. And yes I have those thoughts and told him. but I do want to genuinely understand him so that way I can understand if this is a hard no or something that he can't overcome. for instance he has a hard time keeping track in a conversation. I will ask him something and he will completely deviate to what he wants to talk about and get all confused and then put it on me and I will have to start over and explain to him why I'm starting over and ask him what he thought I was talking about and he says well I was talking about this even though I am the one that started the conversation. or I am talking to him about something I observed and he does not answer me at all to say that he has listened or heard me in any way and I asked him did you hear me and he answers in an angry tone of course I heard you but he understands that he gave no impression that he heard me at all 😳 ask him why he does these things and he takes it in such a negative way. I am trying to grow and evolve in our marriage despite my past feelings because I already made my past feelings known to him and he is growing but all he hears is my past feelings because they played on his insecurities and he allows for his insecurities to lead him in continuing the cycle. 😩

My dismissive avoiding husband said to me I heard you’re hurt. I don’t need to understand why.😏

If someone has the same feeling over and over because of past trauma and triggers, it gets very hard to take it seriously. It feels the same to me every time, but it’s completely new for them, even though it’s the same trigger. At some point there’s a numbness, especially when nothing ever changes. If someone bursts into tears every single day over the same issue, at some point the other person is going to say “ah that time of day again?” It’s not about lack of curiosity imo. I know exactly why it’s happening.

If you've spent 20 years understanding someone, adjusting, and adapting to accommodate them, when does "curiosity" become an excuse for the person reacting to triggers become an excuse. Im betting its less then 3 months for men, right?
