Trying to get your first pull-up for like 6 years? Stop spending all your time in the giant resistance band that violates you anyway. Bands can be helpful, but they give you the MOST help at the bottom. We need to get strong in EVERY position to actually master the pull up though! Instead, I like to train the pieces that actually build a pull-up: 1️⃣ Eccentric lowers Get yourself to the top and slooooowly lower down. Your muscles can handle more load eccentrically, making this one of my favorite ways to build the specific strength you need for a pull-up. 2️⃣ Build your pulling strength Lat pulldowns. Inverted rows. Heavy rows. You need strong lats, biceps and upper back. There’s no hack around getting stronger. 3️⃣ Learn to control your scapula (muscles that bring shoulder blades down) Before you bend your elbows and pull, you need to know how to initiate from your back. Think about “breaking the bar” to create tension through your lats and set up a stronger pull. AND — we need to talk about your core. Pull-ups are a very high-pressure exercise. Your trunk has to create a ton of stiffness to transfer force while your entire body hangs from the bar. They were actually one of the LAST exercises I could do without seeing my diastasis recti dome after the twins because they are so freaking hard. That doesn’t mean pull-ups are off limits if you have diastasis recti or prolapse. It means pressure management matters even more. I teach you how to coordinate your breath, deep core and pelvic floor with the effort so you can progressively build the strength AND pressure tolerance needed for harder exercises like pull-ups. Your core doesn’t need to be protected from hard things forever. It needs to be prepared for them. 💪 Want your first pull-up? Comment PULLUP101 and I’ll send you my NEW free guide that takes you step-by-step. #pullups #pullupprogression
