Maurisio “Mauri” Tapia, 26, an Oxnard native and the frontman of indie band Los Retros, has been arrested in Ventura County. Tapia, who grew up in Oxnard and went on to gain international recognition through his music, is now facing four felony counts involving alleged unlawful acts with a child younger than 10 years old. According to court records reported by the Ventura County Star, Tapia was arrested on October 8, 2026, and booked into Ventura County Jail the following day. His bail was set at $3 MILLION. Prosecutors have also filed special allegations claiming the child was particularly vulnerable and that Tapia took advantage of a position of trust. Los Retros, known for popular songs including Someone to Spend Time With and Amtrak, had approximately 2.8 million monthly Spotify listeners as of October 15. The band performed at Coachella earlier this year. Following news of the charges, Stones Throw Records announced it was taking steps to separate itself from Tapia and his music. Tapia is scheduled to return to court on October 22, 2026. As of October 16, Tapia had not entered a plea and had not been convicted. He remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
