One of the biggest questions in price action trading isn't just where to enter a trade. It's where price might be heading next. That's where the concept of Draw on Liquidity (DOL) comes in. In ICT and Smart Money Concepts (SMC) trading, a Draw on Liquidity refers to an area or level that a trader identifies as a potential destination for price. Instead of analysing a chart without a clear directional idea, traders can use these reference points to build a hypothesis about where price may move. Here are five that I regularly look at: Low-Resistance Liquidity This is about identifying a relatively clear path towards a potential liquidity target. For example, if price is moving higher and there are relatively few significant obstacles between its current position and a previous high, traders may view that area as a possible upside objective. The same principle can apply when price is moving lower. Equal Highs and Equal Lows When price forms multiple highs or lows around a similar level, these areas become obvious reference points on the chart. Equal highs may have buy-side liquidity resting above them, while equal lows may have sell-side liquidity below them. Traders watch these levels because they can become potential targets for liquidity sweeps or breakout moves. However, identifying equal highs or lows doesn't mean price has to reach them. News Highs and News Lows Major economic news releases can create sudden volatility, leaving behind clearly identifiable highs and lows. These extremes can become useful reference points during later price action. For example, after a significant news-driven move, traders may watch whether price eventually returns towards the high or low formed during that release. The important thing is to recognise these areas as potential targets, not assume every news high or low will be revisited. New Day and New Week Opening Gaps New Day Opening Gaps (NDOG) and New Week Opening Gaps (NWOG) are reference areas created by differences between relevant closing and opening prices. Within ICT-style analysis, traders may mark these gaps because price can return to them or react around them. They can help identify potential areas of interest, particularly when considered alongside the wider market structure. But not every opening gap gets filled. Internal Highs and Internal Lows These are smaller swing highs and swing lows within a broader trading range. While traders often focus on obvious external highs and lows, internal levels can also provide useful information about shorter-term price movement. They may act as intermediate objectives before price reaches a more significant external liquidity level. The important distinction is that these five references don't all serve exactly the same purpose. Some identify potential target areas, while others help you assess the path price might take towards those targets. And none of them tells you with certainty what the market will do next. Before placing a trade, you still need to consider the overall market structure, your directional bias, your entry conditions and where the trade idea would be invalidated. A Draw on Liquidity is a trading hypothesis, not a guaranteed destination. Save these five references for your next chart analysis.
