@browneyedgurl801: On June 7, 2016, 23-year-old Colin Nathaniel Scott was exploring Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming with his sister, Sable. The siblings left a designated boardwalk in the Norris Geyser Basin, searching for a natural hot spring where they might soak. Approximately 700 feet from the walkway, Colin approached a small thermal pool and bent down to test its temperature. He suddenly slipped and fell into the scalding water as his sister watched helplessly. Sable ran to find help, and park rangers reached the remote location later that evening. They could see Colin’s body inside the hot spring, but dangerous ground conditions, approaching darkness and a lightning storm prevented them from recovering him. The water was measured at more than 212 degrees Fahrenheit and was mildly acidic. Investigators later discovered that Sable’s phone had recorded the horrifying accident, although the footage was not publicly released. When recovery crews returned the following morning, Colin’s body was gone. Searchers located some of his belongings, including his wallet and shoes, but no recoverable remains. National Park Service investigators concluded that the extreme heat and acidity of the spring had likely dissolved his body overnight. His death was ruled accidental, and the incident became a chilling reminder of the deadly dangers concealed beneath Yellowstone’s beautiful geothermal pools.
