@recteamnyc: Meet the Gas Station Soul Food King of Staten Island! ⛽️👑 One thing I hate is a gimmick. @soullove_1, a grab-and-go soul food spot located in the back of a Mobil gas station, is anything but that. The owner Naseem Barnett is as genuine as they come. He started looking at gas station kitchens because he was inspired by chefs doing similar things in the south—and besides, he couldn’t afford the high-prices of a brick and mortar restaurant. The result is an IYKYK gem of the highest order. Come 4pm, Naseem throws a fryer on top of the gas station’s deli grill and gets to work. Okay, so the concept is cool, but how’s the food? Simply put, the food is incredible. This was one of the best plates I’ve had, anywhere, in recent memory. Naseem fell in love with soul food through his mother’s cooking. But with Soul Love he puts his own spin on the classics—seasoning up the mac and cheese, adding oranges to the yams, and so on.
