I've dealt with really difficult behavior students, so I believe it is possible to inflict trauma on same age peers at an early age. The problem is Kate's story doesn't add up while Collin's does. Even excluding most of what he's disclosed, how could any loving parent lock their kid away for 2 years with no end in sight, not call, only visit once, and refuse to tell the co-parent where their kid is.

Collin was 11 but wasn’t he about 9 when Kate put him in storage? So he really didn’t get to see his sibs. Didn’t eat with them or go to school either. Maybe he caused her problems age 8? I’m not sure if this was Mady but while they were on some vacation didn’t he get in an argument in the car with one of the kids? Then ( maybe Mady ) racked his face with her nails and he was bleeding all over the place. Cameras had to do a distance filming of him?

I’ve had two children that have had to be hospitalized for short periods of time and even though I was upset w their behavior at the time and the actions they had done to me I understood my children were struggling at that time. I spoke to them on the phone everyday and drove to see them every visitation they had bc I love my children. Some visits wouldn’t go well and I would have to tell my child I love you I’ll see you tomorrow and leave but we had plenty of family w us and I would send someone else in to finish the visit. I’ve dealt my entire life having family members who struggle with mental illness and hospitalizations and I know how much they look forward to those visits and once visitation is over and it’s time to leave it’s heartbreaking walking out those doors and looking back at your loved one standing behind locked doors watching you.

In his book he describes the parental alienation from Jon and how that happened. Kate told Collin one weekend randomly he wasn’t going with everyone else because his dad no longer wanted anything to do with him. Meanwhile, she’s telling Jon that Collin doesn’t want to see him. This was also around the time she unenrolled him at school and Jon goes for lunch with the kids and notices Collin isn’t at school, none of the kids tell him why so he goes to the admin who tell him that Collin was unenrolled. First, she isolated him from his siblings within the home. Then she alienated him from his father. Then, he climbed out the window of his cell and tried to run away. The immediate consequence was being sent to the institution.

It wasn’t trauma really. Mady and Collin were just two siblings fighting with each other with Mady instigating and Collin retaliating or vice versa. They were both aggressive with one another. However I believe Mady didn’t start taking her mom’s side until she was way older because when she was a kid, she would protest and argue with her mother and fight with her siblings.

💯 on everything you said endorsing if you have to put your child in a facility to protect your other kids but WHY would you not visit, tell family etc and make sure he was processing not just leave him there discarded!

Collin was the scapegoat child which will naturally cause any kid to act out. She used that against him to they him institutionalized. Being abandoned for 2 yrs will also take a toll so I think when he moved in with his dad who was loving but had boundaries, he had trouble adjusting. All very normal for someone in his situation.

That was my question, why didn’t she just give him to his dad. Usually if one parent is having problems with the child they send them to the other parent to see if they could help him.
