I don’t blame OP because I was in the same situation with my dad and when I was 17 I found out my dad had cancer and then he tried to get closer to me, but I took the opposite route op did instead I continued to not see my dad or have any contact with him and eventually my dad died when I was 18 and I regret that every day I do miss my dad and I wish I had some pictures or memories with him, but sadly I don’t so I’m glad OP chose to do what he chose to do

As someone who is going through similar things, I understand why he took the trip. You know they should love you and it’s fucked that they don’t. And it pisses you off when they suddenly wanna come back, but you get scared thinking about the inevitable. You know they suck, but they’re your parent and you never stop mourning the world you know you should’ve gotten.

I respect their choice of having the relationship they deserved and calling him out. Choose the life you want and deserve. Imo no one should hold anger in their hearts and they figured that out but also chose love even if that’s for a small amount of time
