Culture is usually passed down from the mother’s side.

the black mom vs. black dad biracial conversation is just a way for black women excuse having sex with white men while simultaneously shaming black men being with white women. extremely disingenuous. all of you biracials are the same

Denzel Washington made a statement a while ago that I think gets it closest. "It's not color, it's culture"

I think you're right, but because kids tend to be closer to their mom therefore there mom's side of the family, people make the black mom vs white mom discourse.

Yup. I have a white mom but that doesn’t erase my Black father, aunts, cousins, family friends, etc. that have always been part of my life. The discourse assumes that Black families are absent when there is a white mother, and people that think that should sit and unpack that because it’s a weird projection.

White women raise their mixed daughters like they are white women like them and they aren’t. I think that’s some of it too. I’ve seen white women that acknowledge they have black daughters and that’s helps cause they know they will not have the same experience as them.

This is definitely an interesting conversation as I have a biracial daughter. I’d like to add that I’m black raised in Maryland and then moved to Georgia and you can guess how Georgia treated me. I “spoke white” and they’d call me white girl, which annoyed me because I was just speaking properly and was charismatic 😂 as an adult I guess I can understand the observation because I have a white baby daddy, which my personality surprised his family, WHICH is even crazier.

I’ve learned today from these comments that at first it was ostracizing, excluding and denouncing mixed people in general but now it’s only if you have a white mama. If you have a black mama you’re good. Lord when will it end. 🫩

also grew up with my mom’s fam (black). I was always told I was black. I didn’t even say mixed 😂. I don’t feel excluded from anything on my mom’s side and in our community.

See i only grew up with my black half, however their prejudice against white people was pushed upon me growing up so I was made to feel like I wasnt black enough even thought they were all i knew.

I was born in 1983. Mom is white and I definitely dealt with it. Still do. Nothing has changed in 53 years and its so dumb. Believe it or not I identify more with Puerto Ricans because I was lied to about my father. Nature is nurture/ culture.

My niece has a white mom but, grew up with us. she lived with us many years. Black grandma/father, black aunties, etc. so I completely get this perspective.

first time i ever heard someone say this no fr !!! however on the flip side i was raised by my black dad . ( hood to his core ) . i didn’t care about the “normal” things and was more into alternative music and wore vans and liked “white people “ stuff i was always had to prove my blackness while also being raised by black ppl and living in a living in a predominately black town .

same. like the yt kids in school would tell me "you're not really black" and black kids tested me, but my aunts were panthers, my uncles were nam vets, and my grandma was a share cropper born to two freed slaves. so I've never really had any doubt of who I am

My mom is black too and having the black mom means you get the full experience of being black and the culture. I might be mixed…but I’m black.

It has always been about Culture don’t let no one tell you different who you are more comfortable around some it’s both but most it’s one or the other that does not mean you don’t love your white or uour black side less it’s about were you fell the most comfortable. All the mix people in my family has always been considered black there a part of our family from aunts uncle cousins family reunions church school everything so it is what it is

I think you’re right. I had a friend who was technically 1/4th black. She looked like you. Her mom was biracial but I thought her mom was just high yellow. And the mom was very culturally black. So her daughter, even though she was mostly white, she was one of us. And she wasn’t raised with a father so everything about her social life was just black. I think it boils down to how much time you spend in the culture and how it gets passed down
