@shilohfarm: Corn might get all the attention, but sorghum deserves a little love too! 🌾 While American farmers plant roughly 95 million acres of corn, sorghum (also called milo) accounts for only about 6 million acres. One of the biggest advantages of sorghum is its ability to tolerate heat and drought, making it an especially valuable crop in places where water is limited. It’s used for everything from livestock feed and ethanol to gluten-free foods, and it’s been feeding people around the world for thousands of years. Not bad for a crop most Americans couldn’t identify in a field! #sorghum #agriculture #education #farm #shilohfarm

Question…how do you harvest Milo? I’m in Iowa so it’s mostly corn and beans, I noticed a neighbor planted a good sized field of sorghum. It’s very rare to see here, do you need a different head on the picker?

You haven't explained the reason why corn and soybeans drastically exceed milo in production in North America. Thanks.

Sorghum is so nutritional and a superpower grain. That my Grandmom used to grow it in her farm by in El Salvador. She will used it to feed her pigs. She will soaked Sorghum with liquid whey from her cheese process over night. And that trick make pigs grow juicer 😁

Ehhh, in our area (western Kansas) newer corn hybrids anymore are just as drought tolerant as Milo. Lot of Milo in my area that got hurt just as bad as the corn. Just depends on your fert, planting date, and management.

We had 240 acres of dry land Milo. It slowed down and was basically dead. We got 4 in of rain and it came back. Too bad it froze last night and it won’t finish producing. Cattle will love it this winter when we put them out to graze.
