@reganmhickey: This story is incredibly difficult to share. But I share it in hopes of spreading awareness about blood clots, DVTs, and pulmonary embolisms. I will spend the rest of my life wishing I had known the signs of a DVT. My mom’s calf pain was a sign. Her leg swelling and discoloration were signs. Since these symptoms went away, we thought everything was fine. But it wasn’t. Everything happened so quickly. One moment my mom was here, and just hours later, my life had changed forever. I can’t change what happened to my mom, but I can continue sharing her story in hopes that someone else will recognize the warning signs before it’s too late. I miss you so much mommy. I’m sorry we couldn’t save you 💔 #grief #parentloss #dvt #bloodclot #pulmonaryembolism

Grief is like glitter. In the beginning, it’s everywhere.. on your hands, in your hair, scattered across every corner of your life. You try to clean it up, to restore some sense of order. And for a while, it seems like you’ve succeeded. But then, one day, you move a sofa or open a forgotten drawer, and there it is again. A tiny sparkle that catches the light and reminds you of what you lost. It doesn’t go away completely. It settles, becomes quieter, less overwhelming. You learn to live with it, to carry it gently. And years later, when you find a bit of that glitter tucked behind a shelf, you might smile. Maybe even laugh. Because it reminds you of love, of connection, of someone who mattered deeply. So sorry for your loss. ❤️

My dad died suddenly with me in the emergency room. He woke up from a nap and said he had a back ache, he must have slept funny. Then he went to the bathroom, he felt nauseous, and he was in there about 10 min and I knocked to check on him and he said he was ok just now his legs fell asleep. He came out and I spoke to him and I felt something was wrong, I wanted to call an ambulance but he told me I always crazy, for what a backache? I told him he had to go and he was mad about it but said fine I’d drive him and he was mad on the way there and said I was ridiculous. It was just 6 min to the ER, I dropped him and he walked in while I parked and when I went in it was full but no dad. They said they took him back and I knew that was not good. I went back and they were running tests, his blood pressure was too low and they said he needed medication to raise it and they needed to invert him, head down feet up to keep blood flowing to his brain. Then they told us they needed to get him in to get an mri and they left us. He begged me to help him up, that laying like this was killing him, it hurt so bad now. I told him you need the blood to your brain. And he begged again to help him up and then he got very calm and held my hands and told me I’m going to die. I tried to tell him that no were here it’s going to be ok and he told me no, listen to me, I’m dying. I’m going to have to leave you. I need you to know that I love you more than anything and that it’s going to be ok. I told him I loved him more than anything too and that it was going to be ok and then I started screaming for help and tried to let go to go to the door for help and he held on and he told me shhh, shhhhsh, just stay with me. He just looked in my eyes as long as he could and then he just let go. He died right there, from an aortic dissection. He was right, they were killing him, the raising of his blood pressure made him bleeedout faster and the inverting him forced more blood through the dissection. They told me that they’d suspected it but there was nothing they could have done to save him. Nothing was ok and I miss him every day for 22 years now.

My dad passed away in my arms. He had been playing with my son, slipped and fell, and hit his head ( to the point where his nose broke). This sent him into a sudden cardiac arrest ( he was a bypass patient) and I watched the life leave him. I’ll never get over it. It still hits me in waves. But, baby, listen… this isn’t our fault. This is life. And there is an afterlife. She’s still with you. I promise.

You called her “Mommy” not “Mom”. I’d die happy thinking about that - with just that alone. Try to enjoy these early moments with your young one, just as she’d want you to.

Right after I gave birth I told my nurse something was wrong something didn’t feel right. She fought the doctor’s to run test. The doctors said it’s normal she just gave birth. My nurse didn’t take no for an answer. They did an EKG and CT. I had a really big blood clot in my lung. If it weren’t for her I wouldn’t be here. I get so scared now when I feel short of breath. 3 months since getting off blood thinners. Hope it doesn’t come back.

I lost my Mom on March 10, 2021, she was 59. she was a RN and knew the signs but didn't recognize them in herself. she had a Pulmonary Embolism, very similar story to yours. the loss and pain was unbearable and continues 25 years later to take my breath away. you never adjust to losing your Mommy. I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss. I see signs of my Mom all around especially at times I need her most. she's with you and her grandchild every day and always will be. sending you a hug and healing light for comfort.

BABYYYY that’s so normal that moms come and help THEIR DAUGHTERS. She lived her BEST last few weeks with her daughter. There’s nothing in the world that could ever replace that. It’s not your fault- there’s no way you could’ve known.

As a nurse, I wish more people were educated about flights and the risk of a blood clot especially a flight that long. Simple compression stockings, and getting up and walking once an hour can make all the difference. But it’s not your fault most people don’t know this. There’s nothing that you could’ve done and I’ve always been a big believer that when it’s your time to go, you go no matter where you’re at or what you’re doing so I think it was just her time love

My mom died the same way. She was watchibg tv, got a strong pain in her calf, my sister called 911 they told her to give her medicine and call if it had gotten worse. She died quickly after. I got the call the morning after and flew on the same day. I have so much anger around this. Your video made me burst into tears. It’s been 1.5 years and i’m 31.
