The Discovery Details The rescue excavation was carried out by Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) after local citizen Khaled el-Shahat Khalil reported finding a stone covered in ancient hieroglyphs on his property. The excavation near the western side of a local temple complex dedicated to the goddess Isis yielded several major artifacts: • The First Statue: Researchers uncovered a carved pink granite head measuring over 5 feet (1.6 meters) tall. The face is remarkably well-preserved and depicts Pharaoh Ramses II wearing the Pschent (the double crown symbolizing unified rule over Upper and Lower Egypt). Based on the head's proportions, archaeologists estimate the full, intact statue originally stood 27 to 28 feet tall. A fragment of the statue's back pillar bears the king's Horus name. • The Second Statue: A second royal statue, measuring roughly 7.8 feet (2.4 meters) long, was also found. While it is missing its legs, base, and portions of its traditional nemes headdress, the facial features match the first statue, leading experts to believe it is a second depiction of Ramses II. • Inscribed Granite Block: Nearby, a separate pink granite block features explicit hieroglyphs spelling out the royal titles "Nesu Bity" (King of Upper and Lower Egypt) and "Sa Ra" (Son of Ra), further confirming the ties to Ramses II. Historical Context Pharaoh Ramses II ruled Egypt for 66 years during the New Kingdom period (circa 1279–1213 B.C.). Famous for his military campaigns and monumental building projects, his likeness has been found at numerous historic complexes across Egypt. The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities noted that excavations on the land are ongoing to better understand how these colossal fragments relate to the architectural growth and history of the Nile Delta region - @mudasser.karimi4
